SMA supplied solar inverters for 2 megawatts floating solar project in Thailand

SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA), has supplied 22 units of Sunny Highpower PEAK1 solar inverters to GreenYellow (Thailand) for the SPM floating solar project in Thailand. This helps to generate up to 2.73 GWh of green solar energy and reduces CO2 emission of 1,380 tons per year. SMA, one of the leading global specialists in photovoltaic system technology, has gained significant market share in the Southeast Asian countries and is committed to assisting Thailand to meet its rapidly growing energy needs.

“SMA’s market presence has been built on a combination of a proven track record of 40 years and its reliable, state-of-the-art technology from Germany and is backed by first-class local service efforts contributed by both local partners executing such crucial projects and our own team members,” said Ting Wang, Head of Sales – China, SEA & IN at SMA. “We have seen steady growth throughout the years in the region, which has been largely driven by the market’s intent to increase the proportion of electricity generated from renewable energy sources. With such astounding efforts put by GreenYellow’s team in helping the customer begin their transition to greener energy supply, we are committed to meeting the rapidly growing energy demands in Thailand.”

“For the past 3 years in Thailand, GreenYellow has seen a tremendously growing demand for renewable energy coming from private companies and we assist them in fulfilling their needs with our Private PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) scheme. Our focus was to provide the best possible solution to our customer without any compromise in terms of quality. With our in-house expertise along with reliable equipment from companies like SMA, we are confident to operate this 2 MWp floating solar plant and satisfy the energy need of our client,” said Frank Glück, CEO for Green Yellow, Thailand and Asia.

"This floating solar power plant will play an important role in helping the client to continue their energy transition and meet their environmental commitments. We are particularly happy with GreenYellow’s choice – the owner and operator of this solar floating plant which has flawlessly commissioned such a commendable project. By opting for SMA, our technology ensures that the best-in-class solutions provided to GreenYellow will enable them to meet their customer’s expectations for many years to come." Said Karan Singh, Sales Director for Southeast Asia at SMA.

The energy generated from this plant will be completely self-consumed by the factory. With this project being the core factor of transition from conventional to renewable energy sources, the 2.73 GWh energy generated per year will help the client shift up to 25% of the factory’s electricity consumption from conventional sources.
